Park Güell Opening Hours - and the Two Windows You Can't Use

Park Güell opening hours for ticketed entry to the Monumental Zone start at 09:30 for most of the year, and the last slot falls between 17:30 and 19:30 depending on the season. Those are the park timings that matter when you are holding a ticket. The free area runs on a wider schedule, which is the reason Google, the guidebooks and the operator all appear to give different answers to what time Park Güell opens and closes.

But the park itself opens earlier and closes later than that, and those extra hours are not available to visitors. They are reserved for people who live in Barcelona. This is the single most misunderstood thing about Park Güell's schedule, and it has consequences if you were planning a sunrise visit.

Park Güell opening hours by season

PeriodHours
29 March - 30 June09:30 - 19:30
1 July - 31 August09:00 - 19:30
1 September - 24 October09:30 - 19:30
25 October - 6 February09:30 - 17:30
7 February - 28 March09:30 - 18:00

Winter is the one to watch. From late October to early February the park shuts at 17:30, two hours earlier than in summer. A late-afternoon plan built on summer hours falls apart in November.

These are the published seasonal bands. The park also runs a per-date calendar on its own site, so if your visit is near a changeover date - or near a public holiday - check the exact day rather than trusting the band.

The two Park Güell windows closed to tourists

This is the bit no other guide seems to mention.

"Bon Dia Barcelona": 07:00 - 09:30, and 07:00 - 09:00 in July and August.
"Bon Vespre Barcelona": 22:00 closing, opening at 18:00 from 25 October to 6 February, 18:30 from 7 February to 28 March and 20:00 for the rest of the year.

During both, the park is open only to Barcelona residents and to people with a Passi Verd booking. The official wording leaves no room: these times are reserved exclusively for neighbours and Passi Verd bookings, and tourist visits are not allowed.

The reasoning is straightforward. Park Güell is a public park in a residential district of Gràcia, it takes enormous visitor numbers, and the city council carved out two daily windows so that locals can actually use their own park. Fair enough, honestly.

What it means for you: you cannot get in before 09:30, in any season except July and August when the gates open at 09:00. Any advice telling you to arrive at dawn for empty paths and soft light is advice you cannot act on. We have seen that suggestion published on at least one popular Barcelona guide. It would get you turned away.

💡 Pro Tip
The pre-slot warm-up walk does not work
The common advice to "arrive early and wander the free part before your slot" does not work here. Before 09:30 the whole park is residents-only, free zone included. The earliest you can genuinely do that warm-up walk is 09:30, which is also the first bookable slot, so in practice you are picking one or the other.

Why Google and the guidebooks disagree on Park Güell timings

Search Park Güell and Google's panel says it opens at 9 AM. The official site says 09:30. Neither is lying.

09:00 is the opening time for 1 July to 31 August only. The rest of the year it is 09:30. Google is showing one seasonal figure as though it were the year-round one.

Older guides say something different again, usually 08:00 or "from dawn", which reflects how the park worked before the current access rules. Those pages have not been updated.

When sources disagree, use the operator's per-date calendar. It is the only one tied to your actual visit date.

💡 Pro Tip
Re-check the time you planned around
If you planned your day off Google's opening time, check it again. Outside July and August the gates open at 09:30, not 09:00, so a plan built on the Google figure has you standing outside for half an hour - and you cannot go in early, because that half hour belongs to residents. The same applies to closing: Google does not show you that the park shuts at 17:30 from late October.

Your time slot, and the 30 minutes after it

Your ticket carries a specific start time, and you have 30 minutes from that time to get through the gate. Slot at 12:00, admitted until 12:30. Arrive at 12:35 and the ticket is void. There is no swapping it, no standby queue, no talking your way in.

Once you are inside there is no time limit at all. Stay until closing if you want. The slot controls when you enter, not how long you get.

And then the rule that catches people going the other way: once you leave, you cannot come back. Exit the Monumental Zone and that ticket is spent. So do not pop out for a coffee planning to return.

This changes how you should walk the park. Monumental Zone first, free zone afterwards, because the reverse means either abandoning your paid section or climbing back up.

Practical notes on Park Güell visiting hours

  • The park opens every day of the year.
  • Last entry is the final bookable time band, not the closing time - so you cannot rock up at 19:25 in summer.
  • Tickets are sold online only and have been since 1 July 2024. No box office, no gate sales.
  • The Gaudí House Museum inside the park runs its own timed slots, separate from your park slot.

After the hours: which slot to book

Now that you know which slots exist, work out which one to book - crowd levels and light vary a lot across the day. If you are still deciding whether to buy at all, start with what's free and what isn't.
